HVAC study Mahler

Actiflow was asked to evaluate the indoor climate of "The Rock", a building designed by Erick van Egeraat, which is part of the Zuidas business district in Amsterdam. The key feature of this building is a large atrium of approximately 90 metres high. A glass facade gives the atrium a spacious look, but it also poses a serious challenge to the indoor climate design.

An extensive CFD study was performed, consisting of simulations of various weather conditions and different settings of the HVAC systems. All relevant factors were included, such as outdoor temperature, solar radiation, thermal loads caused by equipment and occupants of the building, etc. Using the information from this study, the HVAC systems have been designed and dimensioned in such a way that thermal comfort is guaranteed under all conditions.
