Wind turbine tip extension

For a German wind turbine manufacturer, Actiflow designed a tip enlargement for a 27 metre blade, to reach a new length of 29 metres. As an important boundary condition, the tip design had to fit with the existing shape and layout of the original blade. Also the production aspects had to be taken into account.

In order to guarantee a good aerodynamic performance, a blade section with a span of 7 metres was redesigned. Using modelling and simulation techniques, Actiflow designed a new tip shape with minimal tip losses and minimal noise production. While designing, the cost of production, including the cost of the new mould, was taken into account, so they would stay as low as possible.
